I was going through some of my old photos and I stumbled across this one I took for photojournalism.

FISH TANK

I thought I’d take the time to publish some thoughts of mine, maybe to help me get my ideas flowing.

In my digital image illustration class, which is currently my most conceptually based class, we were giving the assignment of a surreal photo. I’ve been mulling over the idea of the words fish tank. Not an actual fish tank but what it means.

To me, fish tank means being trapped. Trapped in a financial struggles or problems at home, something about your life keeps you trapped. You can look out but you can’t actually get out.

I need to have some pictures by tomorrow. Problem is: I don’t exactly know how surreal I want to get. I don’t want to be literal with fish tank, but I don’t want people to misconstrue my meaning. I wish I had more time.

We had to make a dramatized advert in digital image illustration. I decided to do one of those ridiculous mascara ads.
Nikon D60 with 105mm.
In order to make my lashes longer, duplicated the image and then used the liquify filter in photoshop and used the turbulence tool to pull the lashes. I made a layer mask and got rid of all of the pulled skin, leaving the lashes. I selected the lashes, copied/pasted them, and then moved the lashes over and warped them to fit my eye to give myself more lashes. I again made a layer mask and erased skin and certain lashes I didn’t want replicated. I repeated this step once more, and then burned around my eye to give more definition. If you have any questions on how I did this, my ask box is open!

A few more from the quotation series.

Both contain text from House of Leaves. What I love about the second photo is that you can actually read every word.

In an ideal world, I’d could have an big art exhibition. I think the lower photo would be huge. Rothko-huge.

Quotation series continued.

Text from House of Leaves and The Fault In Our Stars respectively. I do admit the text from TFIOS is uh… more inspired by the book than actually from it (except that last line).

Brie bird.

Brie and I ended up doing a shoot in my camera flash photography class with the help of Kristin and another classmate.

Shot with Canon 7D + standard lens, one 580 + two 430 flashes. Cyan, salmon, and violet gels.

Finished up one last shoot for my cruelty-free campaign.

D and her rescue pug, Kibbie.

More from the cruelty free cosmetics campaign.

Rebecca and Koshka.

I did a shoot the other day with Cassie and her mini dachshund, Butters. Isn’t she just the cutest thing?
